Welcome to Stone Creek Decor
The complicated answer as to how Stone Creek Decor began actually starts in the beautiful state of Colorado. I was born and raised in Denver and have always enjoyed being in the great outdoors. From skiing and camping to hiking and trout fishing, I have always enjoyed and marveled at God’s magnificent creation.
After graduating from the Physician Assistant program at the University of Colorado, I pursued a career in Emergency Medicine in Tulsa, Oklahoma. By 2004, I convinced the love of my life, Mary Clare, to marry me and start a new life in Tulsa.
In 2006, I undertook a major home landscaping project that included building a large sandstone planter box at the end of our backyard deck. I hand chiseled literally tons natural sandstone slabs and included a water feature in the center utilizing granite river rock from Colorado. I have enjoyed photography over the years, and decided to arrange the leftover river rock around the perimeter of a picture frame of the Crystal Mill. Upon its completion, I felt as if God posed a simple question, “What else could you do with these stones?” With that, Stone Creek Decor was born.
I love taking what may seem like ordinary natural stone and transform it into something extraordinary. What you see is no ordinary transformation!
Over the years, my artwork has evolved and in 2009 I started working less with river rock and more with stone quarried from all over the world. I commonly incorporate granite, marble, onyx, quartzite, slate and labradorite in most of my artwok and many times the stones I utilize were remnants or being discarded altogether and destined for a landfill. These amazing stones unique took millennia to form and are imported from quarries all over the globe including India, Italy, Norway, Finland, Madagascar, Turkey, Ukraine, Spain, Africa, Australia and Israel. Beautiful colors and textures are the unique result of varying processes of geological formation including heat, pressure and time.
The process of creating these mountainscapes takes numerous steps over several days. It’s slow, tedious and really messy (just ask my wife) but I love every minute of it! I painstakingly hand chisel, cut and arrange every stone in an attempt to capture the most natural and pleasing look. My work involves combining stone of different size, shape, color and texture into a finished piece that feels balanced and symmetrical. My hope is that you are left with a sense of peace and relaxation as you enjoy them both day or night!
